i love the attention but a girl is tired
I am presently working off of three and a half hours of sleep. I was up until about eleven chatting with Lynne and Anitra. When I finally decided to take my tired ass to bed, I got a phone call that kept me up until 2:30 this morning. Needless to say, I am sleepy as hell. I had a huge mug of coffee this morning and it’s attempting to work me but I don’t think even Starbucks Espresso Roast (more beans, less water cause I like it to be strong) will take away this tired feeling I have.

I wanted to talk about Michael Jackson and his latest invention but another fan who feels about Mike the way I do has said it so much better than I ever could have. I am going to refer you to dashes.com and let you read it for yourself.

This lady of soul mess
So there is a lot of hubbub going on about the whole Ashanti/Soul Train Lady of Soul/Entertainer of the Year Award. Apparently Soul Train feels that Ashanti deserves the Aretha Franklin award but there some 20,000 people who disagree. Soul Train disagreed with them disagreeing and the whole thing turned into a schoolyard fight with Soul Train coming out looking like jackasses. My thoughts are presented to you in the following list of questions, which I will dedicate to Anil because during our hilarious chat last night he helped me come up with a bunch of them.

1. Hey Don Cornelius, why you got your little cousin answering the angry emails being all ghetto and rude to people and shit?

2. Don’t you think it’s hypocritical to discredit the petitioner’s opinion because he is white when you had Leeza Gibbons as a host on last year’s show?

3. What the fuck is up with the text alignment on SoulTrain.com? Did the bootleg copy of FrontPage have a bug in it or something?

4. Furthermore, do the words spell check, grammar check or professional proofreader mean anything to you?

5. If you are going to be on television and make black people look bad while supposedly trying to praise them and their culture, don’t you have a contractual obligation to be on BET?

6. And just why did you call BET out like it’s their fault?

7. Soul Train has neither soul nor trains. Please Explain.

8. To Shemar Moore – You left Y & R for this shit?

9. If non-black people speaking out against Soul Train is a bad thing (because apparently they can’t know anything about soul music), why do you have non-black people parading around the stage trying to shake what their mama didn’t give them?

10. Speaking of BET, am I the only one who thinks BET uses Cita as their way of talking shit about people without really having to own up to it?

11. You say that everyone is missing the point and that talent or lack thereof really have no bearing on who gets this award, it’s more about who has had a stellar year in the music business that determines this award. How then did Ashanti qualify when she didn’t even bust on the scene until the early part of this year?

12. I still contend that anyone winning an award with Aretha Franklin’s name on it should have at least some amount of identifiable talent. Am I alone in thinking Ashanti (i.e. that live remote on the Doug banks show where she apparently couldn’t remember the words to her song either) can’t sing and (judging from the happy video) can’t dance either?

13. Furthermore, aren’t widows peaks like so 1998/Lisa Raye?

14. Who decided Ashanti was the princess of Hip Hop and R & B?

15. Am I the only one who would vote to pass a law that would require Ja Rule and Ashanti to give their voices a rest for the next 12 months if it showed up on the ballot in November?

16. Should I lay off Ashanti and Soul Train for now? Or is it ok if I do two more?

17. How sad is it that when Soul Train couldn’t come up with a better response they resorted to not only the race card, but throwing the horror of slavery up in the mix too?

18. How ironically funny is it that while lambasting other members of the race for black on black mudslinging they themselves were slinging the most mud?

19. Should Ashanti Be Entertainer of the Year?

20. Does anyone really care that much?
