When I started blogging again last week, the theme behind me reopening my blog was soul food because to me writing is food for my soul. I used this picture and everyone talked about how it made them hungry.
This picture was taken in a restaurant here in town called Simply Southern. The focus of Simply Southern is down home southern cooking. Everything on the menu is a feast for the eyes and the stomach. The presentation is great; they serve your drinks in a jar which is reminiscent of southern living way back when (although some people still drink out of jars).
When you walk into Simply Southern a giant display on one wall shows you that this restaurant is a Rock Newman venture and there are lots of pictures of him on the walls. I became aware of it being his venture the first time I dined there. On Saturday afternoon, when I went in to get some carryout for dinner, I saw him sitting in the restaurant enjoying a meal.
That blew my mind. Sure, lots of famous people open up or invest in restaurants, but how many of them do you actually see chowing down enjoying the food?
So I had to bring the picture back for a new reason. Seeing him in his own business eating was food for my soul.
