in traffic

taken in the rearview mirror while driving down Decatur Blvd in Las Vegas

Ever since I discovered Heather’s Mirror Project earlier last summer I have been fascinated with snapping photos of myself in reflective surfaces. Mind you I haven’t submitted one single photo to the mirror project yet, but that has not stopped me from snapping a picture when I catch my reflection in the rear view mirror, the side of the car or the reflective glass of an office building.

I snapped this picture on Saturday, January 19, 2002. I was riding down Decatur Boulevard in Las Vegas on my way home from the barbershop. Aside from the Las Vegas strip, Decatur is probably one of the busiest streets in Vegas. No matter what time of day you drive down Decatur, the traffic is always bumper to bumper. I like this picture because not only can you see me in the mirror, but you can see all the traffic in front of me and behind me. There are always people in the streets in Vegas.

As you can see, Saturday was no exception. On a bright, sunny day with the temperature at a cool 51 degrees (which is semi-cold to us desert dwellers) everyone had somewhere to go. Before you all panic, by the brake lights you are able to tell that I snapped this picture at a red light. The looks I was getting from people in cars around me were priceless. They probably wondered why I was taking pictures of myself in the rearview mirror.
